They learn by watching you.......
Blak iz Blak ya'll. The above video is 9 minutes, If you have the time slacking off in your cubicle, or faking like your working for the Man, watch it, turn your speakers down or your headphones on. This whole blog is filled with Black visual ecstasy, but never anything unsafe for work, though the word nigger/nigga is used. Deal with it. Hell, your boss says at ome anyways.
Wooooooooooo chile, I loves that video. I tell you, lately I have been TAKEN lately by the State of Affairs of Black America. I often wonder why we are shocked about things said and done in this small ass world we live in. The video above fits perfectly for this weeks topic.
(UNFUKINGBELIEVABLE YET SOMEHOW I BELIEVE)
Check out whats going on around my way. Please click here and fuk that fake ass little article, watch the news video of what happened. Do it now, I will wait, trust, you won't and you will believe it. Sorry I couldn't embed it but I don't think the news stations let you blatantly jack their stuff. (I tried though) What part of the world do I live in you may be asking? No different then yours, because trust me this same type of shit happens like everyday. The insane party is this college. Not to say I don't think racism abounds everywhere, but when I think of college I think of the future, and dammit I want college kids to be more openminded! That is what colleges are supposed to be producing right, the future, right? And shouldn't the future look bright? Ten to one that all those poor little ignorant children in blackface at that party listen to all kindsa 50cent and Lil Wayne. I mean it is a hip-hop world we live in and emulation is their forte'. Emulating is not a form of flattery in this sense. When is blackface ever correct? Let's see.....NEVER. was there not one person ANYWHERE in the vicinity of these young adults saying "Um I think is a bad idea." ? Am I to believe that the people stood around somewhere putting on brown makeup, "hip-hopping" themselves out and everyone, EVERYONE thought it was going to be funny. The president of Geneseo is "disgusted" but has to say it's protected under freedom of speech. The sick part is I totally understand the "theory" of free speech. I know that under said "theory" that a white person can dance about in Blackface and while other folks may get disgusted, they will suffer minimal consequence I am sure. I, on the other hand, though light-complected and always willing to battle about my melanin mostly to other Black folks-oh the irony) would suffer heavily from merely voicing my opinion on racial injustice lets say.......in the workplace for example. Not that I would suffer indignity for the sake of a job, (though recently I had to set a coworker straight) I know that the freedom of speech will allow me to say what I need, but the consequences of doing so would surely not be in my favor. Why? Why is it different rules for the same rule? MAKES NO DAMN SENSE TO ME, if it does to you, school me, I am ALWAYS interested in learning.
I am very pleased that there are some young brothers on that campus that are not trying to let this slide by. I hope they keep the flame lit, because if not this will surely fall into the cracks in the sidewalk outside of the dorms. I will also say this, if someone got there asses KICKED while wearing Blackface I bet you it would be a media frenzy in regards to the "violence". I commend the Black students at that party for not wildin' out and "blacking" and eye or two for since they want to experience Black skin so damn bad.
Now you may not like what I am going to stay, please know I'm saying it anyways. "Other" people do the things they do and (this is the rub) they learn it by watching us. Do I think that there isn't already some deep ingrained slice of racism instilled in everyone? Well sure there is!! But in this instance, we (Black people-and no not all of us but I shouldn't have to say that) have not been setting a good example for our own, so how do we think "other" (White) people look at us?? In those pics of these kids postulating all extra hardcore, trying all hard to pose like what they see on BET and MTV, I see a bunch of young adults who should have known better portraying how they see Black people. However you look at it, these people saw us simply as a joke. How we present ourselves and how we are seen in the media (in all forms) helps this train of thought.
So surprisingly, you shouldn't be surprised
One more time for your mind:

**UPDATE**
My good hard working, studious friend TEE, sent me an email letting me know of his own personal experience (see comments) with the Blackface Halloween Costume at the college he went to, Auburn University in Auburn, AL. THe bpictures below are from that incident. Who said it was cool to dress to ape a race for a COSTUME, costumes are Monsters, TV characters, Cartoon characters, Dr's & Nurses, Pirates, etc.....
